This is the rare channel on Openfilm that has exactly the right name. Frenchnerd perfectly captures the zany spirit of the three films uploaded here so far.
The Interview isn't my favorite movie in the world, but the other two are so spectacular that it almost doesn't matter.
Made for a measly $1000, The Playfighters is one of the coolest mash-ups of live-action and CGI that you're likely to find. It concerns an angel and a demon fighting over a Sony PSP. It's chockfull of “oooh” and “aaah” moments as the enemies fight and swoop through the air. I love how the end-credits list everyone who worked on the film and then how to contact them via e-mail. All indie filmmakers should do that to help their crews get more work.
The Chase is equally impressive - more earthbound but still visually arresting, funny and phantasmagoric. An alcoholic tries to convince his fellow patrons at a pub that he once found a Death-like figure ripping a man's guts out and ended up chasing the monster on a motorcycle. The makeup and FX are cartoonish, but purposefully so.
These films are basically silly stories told with wild abandon and breathtaking energy. More please - I need my Looney Tunes fix.
